Help and FAQ
Short answers to what artists ask most.
Your page
What is hyp.fm?
A free page for your music: one page for you as an artist (hyp.fm/@yourname) and a page for every release, with links to Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Tidal, Bandcamp and the rest. One link to share for everything.
Can I add a release before it's out?
Yes. Set a future release date and the release page shows a countdown. Your streaming links appear on the day.
Can I change my page address?
Yes, under Page address. Your old address keeps redirecting to the new one for 90 days, so links you've already shared keep working.
Can I choose what my page looks like?
Pick a theme under Look and feel and change its colors if you like. Text and buttons are adjusted automatically so your page stays readable. You can also show a blurred image behind the page, and choose whether your releases come before or after your streaming links.
What images can I upload?
JPEG, PNG, WebP or AVIF, up to 10 MB. Profile pictures and cover art work best square, at least 1000×1000 pixels; banners wide, at least 1320×440 pixels. You can crop after uploading. Location and camera data are removed.
Mastering
What does the mastering do?
It analyzes your mix and adapts to it, so you don't need a reference track: a high-pass filter, EQ toward a balanced target curve, a compressor that adapts to the mix's dynamics, gain to the loudness you choose, and a true-peak limiter. A master takes about half a minute.
What do the settings mean?
- Target: how loud the master is, in LUFS. −14 suits Spotify, YouTube and Tidal; −16 Apple Music.
- Ceiling: the highest true peak allowed.
- EQ strength: how much of the correction toward the target curve is applied.
- Max per band: the largest change in any one frequency band.
- Target curve slope: the tonal balance. Steeper means more bass and less treble.
- Compression: Auto compresses gently, and not at all when the mix is already dense.
How should I export my mix?
As WAV, FLAC or AIFF if you can, with some headroom (peaks below 0 dB) and no limiter on the master bus. MP3 works too.
How do I compare versions?
Under Compare, pick any two of your mix and its versions as A and B, press play, and switch with the A/B buttons or the X key. With "Same loudness" on, the louder one is turned down, so you hear the difference in tone and dynamics rather than volume.
Can I ask others which master is best?
Yes. Under a mix, choose Share versions for feedback, tick 2–4 versions (your mix can be one of them) and create a private link. Listeners switch between the versions at the same spot, at the same loudness, say which one they prefer and comment. By default it's a blind test: they see A, B, C in random order, and only you see which is which, with the votes and comments. Listeners can't download. Turn the link off whenever you like; it goes when the mix is deleted.
How many masters can I make?
Mastering is free during the beta, with 5 masters a month. Every version you make counts, even if you delete it later. Mixes can be up to 300 MB and 20 minutes.
How long are my files kept?
Mixes and their masters are deleted automatically after 30 days, or earlier if you delete them. Download the versions you want to keep.
Loudness
What is LUFS?
Loudness measured the way streaming services measure it: the average loudness of the whole track. Services turn tracks up or down to their own level, around −14 LUFS on Spotify, so a louder master isn't louder for listeners. It just loses dynamics.
What is true peak?
The highest level the audio reaches once it's converted back to a waveform, which can be higher than the highest sample. Keep it below about −1 dBTP so the MP3 and AAC versions on streaming services don't distort.
How can I check a master I made somewhere else?
Use the free Loudness check. It runs in your browser, so your file is never uploaded, and you don't need an account.
Private listening links
What are private links?
Share unreleased tracks with a label, the press or your bandmates. Listeners can comment at a moment in the track. Links can expire after 7, 30 or 90 days, or never, and you choose whether downloading is allowed. Free during the beta.
Statistics, tracking and privacy
Do you track my visitors?
Not by default. Your statistics (views, clicks per service, countries, referrers, devices, UTM sources) work without cookies, and no personal data about your visitors is stored.
Can I use Meta Pixel or Google Ads?
Yes, under Tracking. Both are off until you turn them on. When they're on, visitors are asked for consent first, and nothing is sent to Meta or Google before they accept. Visitors in the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland always get the consent banner. You're responsible for your own tracking setup.
Does my page have a privacy policy?
Yes. Every artist page has one, generated automatically, that describes the tracking you've turned on. See also our privacy policy.
Account
How do I get my data or delete my account?
Under Account you can download all your data as a file and delete your account. Deleting removes your page, releases, images, statistics and files right away.
I didn't get the confirmation email.
Check your spam folder. Accounts that aren't confirmed within 7 days are deleted, so you can register again with the same email address.
Is hyp.fm free?
Yes. Your page, your releases, statistics and the tools are free. Mastering and private links are free during the beta.
